I cannot say enough about the book "A Secret Gift", by Ted Gup. I will be using it a reference in my next historical memoir.
This is a book of hope. It mainly references the Great Depression, it does take account of how hard it hit Canton, OH. But that isn't the main feel, or the essence of the story. It's about how a little kindness went a long way. I know it sounds cliche to say it restores one's belief in humanity...but it kind of does this!
